My Northern Charm

Confession: I’m dangerously close to being on a first name basis with every cashier at my local Dollar Tree.

I like DT because it gives me an inexpensive way to test out different ideas that I have. Also, it allows me to get all the odds and ends I needed to complete my space, because let’s be honest, after spending a couple hundred dollars on a couch, the last thing you want to do is drop $50 on a simple soup ladle. After many, many trips to Dollar Tree (more than I’d like to admit) I started to figure out the best ways to incorporate different DT products, without making it obvious. So I’m going to share with you how to redecorate your home at Dollar Tree, and hopefully offer some ideas and inspiration to get you started.

Decorative & Stylish Frames

I used this basic, textured, 5×7 gold frame from Dollar Tree to display a graphic design piece that I purchased from a local flea market. This is one of many frames that I have purchased from Dollar Tree. Even though they are significantly lighter weight and more fragile than normal store-bought frames, I’ve found that they serve their purpose quite nicely for me. I don’t touch or interact with the frames in my home so I personally don’t mind if the frame feels cheap- as long as it looks good!

Bathroom Vanity Storage

This Dollar Tree item is used almost every single day in my home. I wanted certain toiletry items to be accessible, so I knew I needed to find a way to include them on my bathroom counter without appearing cluttered. I ended up finding this textured glass jar that I use to hold my Q-Tips. The rubber-sealed lid adds some quality to the jar, and makes it feel like you paid way more than a dollar. (The two candles in the background are also from Dollar Tree.)

Linen Closet Organization

I used 3 of these small white plastic bins to organize this shelf in my linen closet. I prefer to use these bins instead of just stacking my hand towels directly on the shelf because this method keeps them in organized rows, and allows me to dust/clean the shelf easier. As you can see, I am also able to organize them by season, as I do have some holiday themed hand towels that I like to keep separate.

Decorative Display Shelf

I needed some trinkets to display on a shelving unit in my living room, and I was pleasantly surprised to find two items that perfectly fit the image in my mind. The ceramic cactus in the center, as well as the artificial succulent on the left were both purchased from my local Dollar Tree. I have about 3 of the small white potted artificial succulents placed around my home. They pair well with just about anything, and they’re small enough so the space doesn’t seem cluttered.

I actually made the artificial plant on the far right. The plant itself is crochet and then I hand painted a jar from Dollar Tree. I ended up adding a cork coaster that I purchased from IKEA, along with a canvas that I painted about a year ago. All together it creates a nice, colorful, bohemian inspired display for any living space.

Kitchen Drawer Organization

I’ve lost count of how many of these drawer organizers I’ve purchased from Dollar Tree so far, so just trust me when I say they’re an essential in my home. I personally despise the way kitchen drawers are always overflowing with utensils and getting jammed. Plus, you can never actually find the ice cream scoop when you need it! I don’t want to play archeologist everytime I need something from my kitchen, so I purchased these drawer organizers. They have small rubber tabs on the bottom to keep them from shifting each time you open or close the drawer. There is also a rubber mat on the inside base that keeps the item in place. I also highly recommend using these organizers in your bathroom drawers as well to hold toothpaste, high ties, bobby pins, ect.

Living Room Storage

I use these two small, sand color, fabric bins to hold various remotes, chords, and chargers for my electronics. They also do a nice job of hiding the tangled mess of plugs behind them. I originally purchased two fabric storage bins from Walmart, for $6 each, with the intention of placing them in this spot under the the TV. Once I got home I realized the Walmart bins were way too big for this spot so I used two of my Dollar Tree bins as a temporary fix. Although, that ‘temporary fix’ turned into a permanent installment fairly quickly.

I’ll admit, at first I was a bit worried about displaying Dollar Tree items in such a central spot, but the bins look great and I personally don’t think you can tell I paid $1 instead of $6. I’ve actually received plenty of compliments on them as well.
