My Northern Charm

Wondering how to propose your bridesmaids? Looking for ways to do it cheap…like under $10 cheap? Welcome. You’ve have arrived.

Modern brides have sparked a cultural trend that involves proposing to the women you’d like to have in your wedding party.  Once you’re done basking in the blissful aftermath of your own proposal, it’s time to propose to your bridesmaids. Unfortunately, that’s not a exaggeration. People started asking me about bridesmaids only a few HOURS after I got engaged.

Weddings Are Expensive Enough...

The last thing anyone needs is another expense to worry about. So, I put together some ideas for how to propose to your bridesmaids for under $10.

While these trends can sometimes feel a bit consumerist driven, they do add a bit of excitement to the early stages of wedding prep. Plus, this is a great excuse to give some love to a few important ladies in your life.

Of course this is NOT a necessity. There is absolutely nothing wrong with calling up your sister and asking “hey, will you be a bridesmaid in my wedding?” Honestly, 99% of these little details won’t matter on your actual wedding day. So if you’re a low-key lady and you’re thinking “Why would I propose to the people who are going to be holding my dress while I pee?” I hear you- so skip the hassle and get yourself a bottle of wine.

For everyone else…get your glue guns ready.

How To Propose To Your Bridesmaids
For Under $10

Write a thoughtful letter

Find some old stationary that you may have lying around- or just a simple pen and paper combo. Write a letter to your friend (or family member) asking them to be a part of your big day and maybe include a heartfelt message about how much they mean to you. Use this as an opportunity to thank them for their friendship and the positive impact that they’ve had on your life. I LOVE a good sappy love letter. Alternatively, you could just write something simple like, “Let’s do this bitch!”

Bring them flowers

You can pickup a nice bouquet of flowers at your local grocery store for under $10. If you’re trying to keep to a budget, steer clear of more costly options like roses. There are plenty of beautiful arrangements that don’t include roses, and you can still propose to your bridesmaids in a cute and memorable way.

Make a short video

Film a short video using your phone. Make it as funny and goofy as you’d like, just don’t forget to ask the big question. If you have an iPhone, download the iMovie app to help you edit the video and add some cool effects. (Non-iPhone users: Try FilmoraGo)

Bake Something Sweet

Whip up a batch of cupcakes and then surprise your girls. If you want to get extra crafty, write a little message and tape it to the end of a toothpick. Now your cupcakes can do all the talking for you. I’ve included a suggested recipe below for some pink champagne cupcakes, but you’re welcome to use any yummy dessert of your choosing!

Customize a candle

Stop by TJ MAXX, Hobby Lobby, Target, or shop online for some scented candles. Next, pick up some blank adhesive labels (link below) or anything you can use to cover over the branding on the candle. If you’re feeling really crafty, you could use some acrylic paint. Now, get creative and decorate! Bonus points if you make your own candles.

Custom Crossword Puzzle

Use a free online crossword puzzle generator (linked below) and put your bridesmaids to the test. Use relevant words like proposal, bridesmaid, sister, and bridezilla. Either print it out (bonus points if you decorate it) or send her a link to the digital version! Cute, quick, and unique! (If you’re too busy to make your own, click here to check out the one I made. You’re welcome to steal it!)

Just ask...

Honestly, you really are under no obligation to make a big deal out of proposing to your bridesmaids. Ultimately, If you aren’t having fun with it then don’t do it. Opt for the simple route and just simply ask them in person, or over the phone.
